One of the legislators in Taiwan also claims Koizumi’s visits to Yasukuni Shrine were illegal, and request Yasukuni Shrine to stop worshipping the Takasago volunteers. Politicians in Taiwan and Japan paying visits to Yasukuni Shrine have became an issue, reactions inside Taiwan also differ. This essay attempts to clarify the dispute of visits to Yasukuni Shrine, interviews with politicians involved, the offspring of the Takasago volunteers, and the scholars in Taiwan and Japan. Explains the reasons why Taiwanese people have such different reactions toward Yasukuni Shrine in historical, cultural, and religious ways. |
