Abstract
Infective endocarditis (IE) due to nontyphoid Salmonella (NTS) is rare. Here, we report a case of IE due to NTS involving the mitral valve in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus who had had no preexistent valvular heart disease and been treated with steroids for three years. She was successfully treated with a 6-week course of ceftriaxone then shifted to oral sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim for 4 weeks without valvular replacement.
