Icing is a serious problem that can lead the energy extraction failure however. A TEG-based waste-cold-recovery system (TEG, thermoelectric generator) which features non-icing and non-condensing is particularly designed; its success in extracting cold energy from the cryogenic nitrogen to generate electricity is demonstrated. Effects of both the layer number and the configuration of the TE chips are explored. Together with experimental data, a theoretical analysis is established to obtain the relevant characteristics of the system, such as the internal electric resistances, the Seebeck coefficients, the power generation rate, and the associated efficiencies. Among all tests, the largest output power and the best efficiency obtained are 0.93 W and 2.67%, respectively with a use of twelve TE chips and a nitrogen flow rate of 245 standard liter per minute (SLPM). ? 2021 Elsevier Ltd |
