Abstract
In order to avoid machining and geometric errors, the step of tool path generation is prior to the step of flow field simulation, and the surface profile of the three-dimensional (3D) blade is created by the swept volume method through tool path simulations. Based on the generated machining method, the 3D blade surface of axial-flow fan can be defined only by two 2D blade sections, at hub and tip, and be systematically constructed by the ruled surface. Then, the constructed 3D surface is applied to establish the computational grid and the flow fields are simulated. Any blade geometry, which satisfied the desired flow properties, obtained in this process could be machined by using the generated machining with an end mill.
