The heavy rain caused the swelling stream to scour the bridges. How to monitor the scouring of bridges has become an important issue. This research uses wireless sensing instruments to conduct Ambient Vibration Tests on the bridges, and then uses Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Welch Method analysis on the measured acceleration to obtain the natural frequency of the bridge. There are many kinds of ambient vibration instruments available, but most of them are costly wired instruments, which are not suitable for on-site monitoring. Therefore, this study uses a wireless sensing instrument, which is composed of an accelerometer (MMF KB12VD), Arduino Uno, and Xbee (Open Source) to collect and transmit data, and then process and show the results by MATLAB. In this way, the limitation of patent protection for general commercial instruments can be avoided, and it can be more widely used in subsequent bridge monitoring. © 2021, Chinese Institute of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering.
