Heating non-uniformity has been a major hurdle to numerous applications in microwave heating. The exposure to a non-uniform field is a well-known cause for this difficulty. There are, however, some much less-understood causes, which are inherent in nature in that they persist even in a perfectly uniform field. The current study addresses two such causes in water heating. The first one concerns the effects of field shielding by microwave-induced polarization charges, and the second one on the effects of microwave resonances in water.
