Furthermore, the osteoporotic patients with previous fracture incidents have a higher risk to develop subsequent fractures. Therefore, identification and treatment of osteoporotic patients are crucial for improving geriatric patient care. In order to identify clinical re-fracture probability for the patient risk stratification, the Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX) was developed. Furthermore, Fracture Liaison Services (FLS), or Secondary Fracture Prevention (SFP) programs, which consist of multifaceted investigations (including FRAX), patient education and intervention plans for the osteoporotic patients, are implemented to minimize the treatment gap. FLS programs in Taiwan and across the world have shown significantly positive effects on improving post-fracture care and clinical outcomes for fragility fracture patients. |
