The FPITT index is modeled according to a fuzzy modeling algorithm to interpret a result of both sensory-discriminative and emotionalcognitive components of patient’s suffering. After introducing the concept of volatility and price indexes from financial market, a novel modified FPITT index has been proposed in this study. Four hundred and seventy-four patients with different groups were entered into the study. Patients receiving intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) were compared between different deliveries: 1ml and 2ml of morphine drug; different lockout intervals: 6 minutes and 10 minutes; and two kinds of side effects: vomiting and nausea. Although the correlation between VAS score and modified FPITT index is still low but it is better than our previous study of correlation between VAS score and fuzzy pain demand index in clinical applications. Hence, this index may show the patient’s intention of drug demand in post-operative pain more strongly when we consider patients’ demand instead of only delivery. Moreover, this index has been shown that the patient with side effects would refuse to use the PCA even the pain still existing. However, the side effect of vomiting is harder to tolerate in comparison with nausea. |
