Abstract
Three patients with acoustic neuroma presented with unilateral tinnitus and facial numbness but normal hearing were reported. All had lollipop-shaped tumors on magnetic resonance imaging. The mean size of the tumors was 2 cm in diameter. Only one patient had an absent ice water caloric test. However, all three patients had abnormal auditory brainstem response. Lollipop-shaped tumors represent medially arising schwannomas from the internal auditory canal. Hearing is relatively preserved because these tumors extended into the cerebellopontine angle instead of the internal auditory canal. In conclusion, in patients with unilateral tinnitus but normal hearing, auditory brainstem response test should be performed if facial numbness occurs.
