Generally, peak current mode (PCM) control is often used in boost converters to improve stability and bandwidth because of the single pole feature. However, the slope of the inductor current causes a large undershoot during load-transient. This paper proposes a peak passive ripple mode (PPRM) control to improve the load-transient performance. Furthermore, PPRM control has a lower quiescent current feature than PCM control because the current sensor is not required, and the passive ripple circuit consumes a lower quiescent current. A small signal model is proposed for PPRM control operated in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and the proposed small signal model is verified by experiment and simulation results. |
