Issue Date: | 1-Mar-2024 | Journal Volume: | 17 | Source: | Open Ceramics | Abstract: | In this study, the aging behavior of ceria-stabilized zirconia (Ce–TZP) in water is evaluated, and the aging mechanism is proposed. To eliminate the effect of processing parameters, a methodology involving the introduction of various amounts of the m-phase into one specimen disc is explored. With this method, the formation of the m phase can be attributed to the reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+ in Ce–TZP. Oxygen vacancies play a key role in the aging behavior. Although the addition of Al2O3 particles refines the Ce–TZP microstructure, their presence reduces the aging resistance of Ce–TZP. |
