Abstract
Since the invention of penicillin since 1928, the golden age of antibiotics happened around 1950-1960. Soon the antibiotics resistance has been discovered among many antibiotics and via different mechanisms. The WHO initiated the global action plan to fight with the menace of multidrug resistant organisms (MDROs) since 2015. Education program to promote proper antibiotics use had been an important component in the fight against MDRO. In medical education, the knowledge involving in the fight against MDRO may include microbiology, pharmacology and internal medicine (infectious diseases) and may scatter in different years in the curriculum. How to integrate these knowledge is an important task. Thus, we aim to adopt the “” student as teacher” model and invite students to build up educational cases, and focusing on the ability of prescribing antibiotics as: diagnosis, drug, dose, duration, and de-escalating. In this project, we developed 5 cases (two cases were provided by students) and launched during the 2021 antibiotics awareness week. There are 98 participants and 22 of them complete the 5 cases. The correction rate among the 5D ability was 73.9%, 58.2%, 77.3%, 81.8 %, and 72.7% respectively for diagnosis, drug, dose, duration and de-escalating. Thus, we further developed 5 cases focusing more on the ability of antibiotics choice. The 5 cases launched at May, 2022, there were 133 people had visited the education cases. Through this study, we noted the incentive and ability among students to build up a educational case may not be adequate. But through the on-line education platform, we can provide up-dated case-based learning (CBL) cases and evaluation the antibiotics prescribing ability to reshape the education direction both in the school and hospital setting.
