Abstract
We consider a distributed interference channel in which the transmitters are equipped with movable antenna arrays, enabling them to control the channel statistics. We study the fundamental capacity region where rather surprisingly, we show that a dynamic antenna position plan, which at some point within the communication block rotates the transmit beams to cover both the desired and the unintended receivers, may enhance attainable rates and maximize network capacity. We provide theoretical bounds that define the limits of attainable reliable rates taking into account the non-stationary nature of channels with controllable statistics and the fact that the transmitters are distributed. We also present a linear opportunistic communication protocol that exploits the non-causal knowledge of statistical changes to improve network capacity. We compare the results against various benchmarks and prove the superiority of the proposed protocol. We also prove that the attainable rates match the theoretical bounds for a highly non-trivial set of parameters.
