Abstract
In this study, an active method was employed to investigate pool boiling heat transfer using copper tubes under a saturated condition at atmospheric pressure. The active method consisted of a working fluid with charged surfactants and involved controlling the electric field. The boiling curves and high-speed visualization results indicated that the heat transfer coefficient and the critical heat flux values could be altered by controlling the timing of the applied electric field. By turning the electric field on and off, the bubble nucleation behaviors can be manipulated and the heat transfer performance can thus be altered.
