Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to take East Asia as an epitome for critically thinking the ways of practicing political geography. I separate the chapter into two dimensions: “inaction” and “in action.” For both the sections, I address two interrelated subthemes: academic research and education of critical geopolitics. I argue that political geography inaction can occur with the politics of self-censorship regarding academic research and publication. Meanwhile, the asymmetrical emphasis on research publication, rather than on teaching and public outreach, has exacerbated the inclination to the inaction. For political geography in the context of East Asia, teaching of critical geopolitics and the engagement of the public have been the starting points for making political geography in action. While most of the content of this chapter is based on my actions in Taiwan, my purpose is also to trigger your thoughts for taking your actions in different ways for specific context.
