Abstract
This paper introduces the first dual-band bidirectional absorptive common-mode filter (A-CMF) designed specifically for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequency bands. A novel equivalent circuit model with only three stages is proposed, significantly reducing analytical complexity while providing a comprehensive framework for circuit analysis. The proposed equivalent circuit model is analyzed by the even–odd mode decomposition methods, enabling a mathematical derivation of bidirectional absorption and the precise derivation of analytical equations for circuit parameters. The derived equations are systematically applied in the synthesis procedure, ensuring efficient and accurate circuit parameters determination. The measurement results exhibit excellent agreement with full-wave and circuit simulations, validating the accuracy of the equivalent circuit model and effectiveness of the proposed circuit configuration. The filter achieves bidirectional common-mode (CM) noise suppression within a compact footprint, with an electrical size of only 0.01258 λg2. The 95% CM noise absorption fractional bandwidths (A-FBWs) are up to 15% and 4.1% for the two designed frequency bands, respectively. Besides, the time-domain performance is evaluated through eye diagram analysis, demonstrating reliable operation at the data rate of 16 Gbps. The proposed dual-band bidirectional A-CMF surpasses all existing dual-band A-CMFs in both differential mode (DM) performance and circuit footprint. Furthermore, the measured results demonstrate outstanding signal integrity, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed design.
