Abstract
Nuclear transfer allows the cloning of animals by transferring a nucleus from an early embryo, embryonic stem cell, or somatic cell into an oocyte from which the nuclear DNA has been removed. This technique has now been used to clone 13 animal species, including farm animals, laboratory research animals, pets, and endangered species. Here, we follow the history of nuclear transfer cloning technology and the species in which it has been carried out to date.
