A Durable Transparent Superhydrophobic Surface Fabricated with Non-fluorinated Material by Sol-gel Spray Coating

Abstract
Glass substrate for outdoor applications has characteristics of transparency, self-cleaning, and durability; meanwhile, the fabrication process needs to be eco-friendly for environment. We described a low temperature and economic process tospray coating a rough structure onto the glass substrateusingnano-silica-particle/silicic acid sol-gel solution. The rough structurewasfurther coveredwith a low surface energy material, including non-fluorinatedN-octyltrichlorosilane (C8) and fluorinated 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltrichloro silane (8F) via the spray coating process. The non-fluorinated sample (SC8) and fluorinated sample (S8F) possessed over 76% transmittance at wavelength of 550 nm and superhydrophobic characteristics with a water contact angle exceeding 160° and a sliding angle less than 10°. The durability of samples SC8 and S8F were further compared and both remained to be superhydrophobic after 120 min of ultrasonication damage,1000 ml of water dropping, and 20g of silica sand impact. Nevertheless, the sample SC8 was as durable, superhydrophobic, transparent, as sample S8F,signifying a potential practical application and yet environmentally friendly.
功能性玻璃基板在戶外使用上,除了須具備透明性、自潔性和耐用性外,在環保趨勢下,更需要在材料的選用與製造過程中都能夠對生態環境是友善無害的。我們利用二氧化矽奈米顆粒與矽酸形成溶膠凝膠溶液,以噴塗方式在玻璃基板上製備粗糙表面,並且各別噴塗非含氟辛基三氯矽烷和1H,1H,2H,2H全氟辛基三氯矽烷低表面能物質,製備具有透明性與超疏水性表面。經耐用性測試比較,含氟與非含氟表面,在120分鐘超音波振盪破壞,以及1000ml滴水衝擊與20g矽砂撞擊下,仍然保有超疏水特性。因此,當表面粗糙度達到一定程度時,利用非含氟的辛基三氯矽烷低表面能物質可達到取代1H,1H,2H,2H全氟辛基三氯矽烷,製備耐用非含氟透明超疏水表面。
