Abstract
We present a wide-range, large-area gimbaled mirror-type scanner, fabricated using fused deposition modeling three-dimensional printing method with tough polylactic acid. A 40-mm-diameter mirror is mounted on the mirror frame, and the scanner incorporates embedded permanent magnets that facilitate electromagnetic actuation through the electromagnets. Under direct-current operation (+12 to −12V), one of the designs exhibited full optical scan angles of 22.14 and 15.36 deg along the x-direction. Under alternating-current driving, another design reaches optical scan angles of 30.62 deg (x-direction) and 24.28 deg (y-direction). Furthermore, one device is integrated with a laser rangefinder to enable object scanning and depth mapping.
