Abstract
This study investigates the bandgap characteristics of a metaplate with zigzag beam-mass systems. To analyze the wave band structure of the proposed metaplate, a theoretical model was developed based on the stiffness matrix method and the plane wave expansion (PWE) method. Such a metaplate can create a complete bandgap due to the locally resonant mechanism of the beam-mass system. By altering the number of zigzag beams and the length or diameter of the tip mass, the bandgap location can be easily manipulated. The occurrence of negative effective mass reveals the underlying mechanism of bandgap formation. The validity of the proposed theoretical model was verified by the finite element (FE) simulations and vibration experiments. The proposed metaplate holds significant promise for applications in low-frequency vibration isolation.
