Some of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) have been regarded as probable chemicals that induce human health problems. This research chooses PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as phenanthrene, pyrene, chrysene and benzo[a]pyrene) as target chemicals. The health risk assessment associated with these chemicals should be further discussed for the purpose of ensuring the living quality in the neighborhood of a specific pollution source.This study investigated PAHs emission from a solid waste incinerator and the PAH distribution patterns at the target neighborhood area. The main purpose was to evaluate the target pollutant contribution from the incinerator to the surrounding environment. The analyzed PAH compounds include 2 benzene ring naphthalene up to 6 benzene ring benzo[ghi]perylene. Each air sample was separated into filter-retained particulate phase and adsorbent-trapped gas phase. The PAH results from the incinerator stack test and the ambient air samples were then compared. The result indicated that the PAHs from the solid waste incinerator was not significant to the surrounding area. The possible PAHs sources include transportation vehicle exhaust and other burning processes. |
