The mission of the Department is to be a leading finance research institute in the Asia region, establish global recognition for excellence in both research and teaching, and facilitate learning and innovations in order to have education and social impacts on the academic and business sectors.
The Department offers a full range of finance programs from the undergraduate, master to the PhD levels. It launched the bachelor degree in 1985, the master program in 1990, and the doctorate program in 1993. The Divisions of Financial Engineering and Insurance were added to the master program in 1998 and 2001 respectively. We emphasize the interaction between technology and finance, infuse courses with ethical dimensions, and cultivate students’ global perspective, all in the aims of cultivating professionals specializing in accounting, finance, insurance and real estate. Furthermore, to further integrate theory and practice, the Department collaborates with domestic and foreign major financial institutions, providing students with scholarships and internship opportunities during the summer and winter holidays. The department is currently among the nation’s top-ranked leading departments, sharing the title with NTU’s Department of Medicine and Department of Electrical Engineering.
The Department now has more than 20 full-time faculty members who are actively engaged in research and have reached international reputation in key areas of finance such as asset pricing, bank regulation, corporate finance, empirical banking, financial econometrics, insurance and risk management.
