It appears to be a very promising candidate of next generation access networks. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a synchronous optical code-division multiple-access (SOCDMA) based EPON communication system using perfect difference codes (PDC). We propose a novel upstream synchronization scheme to achieve the synchronization between the optical line terminal (OLT) and the optical network units (ONUs). An experimental environment is setup and main circuits of the OLT and ONU are implemented in field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The function of whoïe system is verified with line rate of upstream at 1.25 Gbit/s and downstream at 10 Gbit/s and system synchronization with resolution and accuracy of around 100ps is achieved. |
