In the proposed setup, a reference target of low profile and small size, instead of an antenna feed to radiate illumination fields, is placed at the reflector’s focal point as an effective electromagnetic scatterer for the scattering field measurement by a pair of radar system transmitting (TX) and receiving (RX) antennas co-placed adjunctly in the quiet zone of the CATR. Full-wave simulation studies this measurement setup’s characteristics and performance. A metal sphere and a small trihedral metal corner reflector are incorporated to compare their characteristics in characterizing the TX/RX antenna pair. The analysis and interpretation are based on the fundamental nature of geometric optics (GO) ray propagation. The scattering mechanism in terms of ray reflections from the parabolic reflector is used to determine the system design geometries by incorporating the targets’ scattering mechanisms. |
